Southern California Suzuki Institute and Chamber Music Workshop (SCSI) is an exciting five-day summer institute held every July at Scripps College in Claremont for students of violin, viola, cello, and piano.  Daily offerings include individual lesson classes, technique classes, repertoire classes, music theory, orchestra, and fiddling.  Additional activities include SAA Teacher Training, Suzuki ECE (Early Childhood Education), Triolets, Baby and Toddler classes, Introduction to Jazz, Introduction to Chamber Music, and Dalcroze.  The faculty includes Suzuki master teachers and SAA teacher trainers.

Chamber Music Workshop at SCSI is an intense five-day program for teenaged students of violin, viola, cello, and piano who are interested in small ensemble playing.  Students who have been selected by audition are formed into ensembles.  Classes include daily coaching sessions, ensemble master classes, orchestra, and a musicianship class.  The workshop culminates in a student concert.

Graduations take place annually for students of violin, viola, cello, and piano.  Students who have attained the appropriate level of musicianship record a required graduation piece from the Suzuki repertoire with the guidance of their teacher.  Participants gather to perform in concert and receive their certificates commemorating their achievement.  In the tradition of the Suzuki Graduation Recitals given in Japan, graduates also receive comments from teacher evaluators about their recordings.

Teacher Training is offered at SCSI.  In addition, SMAC/LA sponsors weekend teacher workshops each February.  The Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) course developed by the Suzuki Association of the Americas was offered in January of 2011 and will continue to be offered annually.

The Chamber Music Benefit Concert is an annual concert which raises funds to be used for financial aid enabling students to attend the Chamber Music Workshop at the Southern California Suzuki Institute.

Financial Aid is available to assist eligible student members to attend SAA sanctioned institutes and workshops to further their musical education.  Specifics on how and when to apply appear on the Financial Aid page.

Elizabeth and Harlow Mills Fund is a scholarship fund specifically established and dedicated to helping teacher members further their Suzuki training and education.

100-Day Practice Challenge is a fundraiser held each fall to raise money for the Student Financial Aid Fund.  Students gather sponsors who will pledge various amounts for each day practiced in the months of September through December.

E-News is an online monthly newsletter called “Ledger Lines”.  It includes information about the current and upcoming events of SMAC/LA and Suzuki-related ideas pertinent and helpful to its teacher and family members.
