Active projects of SMAC/LA include sponsoring the Student Institute, the Chamber Music Workshop, graduations, and financial aid to member students and teachers.

Board members are elected annually and include the following members: Nadia Ghent, Carey Beth Hockett, Jo Shannon, Elizabeth Wright, and Nancy Yamagata.
